Welsh golf star, Becky Brewerton, has secured her place in the 2009 European Solheim Cup team.
The Spanish Open Champion and in-form ladies European tour golfer was named yesterday as one of Captain Alison Nicholas’ picks for this year’s team.
The team was announced at a press conference following the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham. A delighted Brewerton said; “I’m completely relieved. It was a long week. I actually went home to get away from it all, and when Alison called me, I was just thrilled.
“Remembering what my first Solheim experience was like, I was desperate to be on the team again and I'm happy Alison has given me the chance”.
Brewerton’s second Solheim Cup experience comes following a fantastic season on the Ladies European Tour with a victory, two top tens and a highest placed finish by a European Tour player in the Evian Masters, so far.
Already among the top six in Europe for stroke averages and topping the charts for total number of birdies and total number of eagles, Becky is well suited to the Solheim Cup team formats and will look to add to her playing record from Halmstad, Sweden, in 2007.
The Solheim Cup takes sees the best players in Europe take on the best players in America from 17-23 August at Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago, Illinois.
