27/07/2009

Despite carding a final round 76, Ladies Tour Professional and Welsh number one ladies golfer, Becky Brewerton finished the highest ranked ladies European tour professional at the 2009 Evian Masters, Evian-les-Bains, France.

Brewerton, who held a share of the lead for the first three rounds, carded finished in tied 13th place on eight-under.

Having led seven of her last eight tournament rounds, Brewerton demonstrated that it is only a matter of time before she is picking up her first major and competing regularly amongst the best in the world.

Becky, who won the previous week’s Open de Espana, was taking the positives from the experience.
“It was a different situation. I couldn’t hit a fairway in my final round and its hard work when you’re in the rough so much,” she said. “The week as a whole, I finished eight-under. That was my best score here by quite a long way and even today when things weren’t going well it could have been a lot worse.

“I kept my head and made some nice putts, especially on the front nine, to keep in it a little bit. It could easily have been different.”

The result is Becky’s highest placed finish at the Evian and in a major championship, tied 13th on eight under par and keeps Becky at 5th on the order of Merit and helps in her bid for the 2009 Solheim Cup team.
