“During my year as Lady Vice Captain I spent most of it worrying about what theme to have for my Lady Captain's Day. In the end I came up with nothing and so the day simply had to be about golf! I wanted everyone to just have a fun day with a bit of friendly competition. I also knew I wanted someone to talk to us in the evening about life as a professional golfer. Becky was coming to our golf club to do a masterclass and so I thought I would check her out and see if she was what I was looking for- and she was!
Becky fitted us in to her very very busy schedule and waited patiently until 65 ladies had finished their meal and had finally stopped chattering and put down their wine glasses!
Becky began by telling us how she got into golf and said we all had a story of how we got into the game. She took us through her early years when she was mainly playing with boys so had to show great determination. She told ua of her journey to becoming a professional golfer and her nerve wracking first experience of the Solheim Cup plating alongside Dame Laura Davies. She gave us a little inside information on what it's like to play on the European Tour. It was wonderful to hear about the highs of meeting great people and being successful but Becky also stressed about the hours spent practising and the difficulty of constant travel.
Becky was funny, modest and inspirational. She was happy to answer any questions and spoke competently and without notes for well over an hour. Everyone loved it and she was the talking point for quite a few weeks after.”
